reviews for Mountain Biking

As far as I could ever find out, besides a few nice things on Amazon, there was only one official review of Mountain Biking. I hope she’s still riding.

I was a ballet dropout. But today, for the first time in my life, I have a passion for defying my lack of physical coordination, overcoming fears of injury and failure, challenging myself well beyond my own imagination. I will not give up. I am hungry for new trails and to learn new techniques. I have a passion to ride.

Bill Strickland’s book Mountain Biking: The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Ride is my off-trail mentor. My first realized lesson was “flapping my wings” and rolling over logs. It worked! As I rack up time in the saddle, I am able to reflect on points of hesitation and uncertainty. Mr. Strickland’s book is a ready-reference for developing all riding skills. His book is filled with descriptive illustrations of form and movement. His narration places the reader at the scene. I am able to visualize obstacles and I play out the steps in my mind — a physical memory is created without me actually being there. I have added confidence and control.

The Art and Language of riding is less foreign to me now. I have purchased a bike and can appreciate why all the many choices of parts and fixtures matter. Aside from the encouragement I receive from my friends, I have developed a faith that the bike will carry me. I may not be ready for the Swiss-cheese sections of Moab, but I am having fun in the meantime!
