Susan DeMattei wrote the introduction to the book. Back when I was part of the mountain bike scene, and knew her just a little bit, she was gorgeous and always happy and really, really fast. Leading up to the 1996 Olympics, the first time mountain biking was included, everyone was excited about Juli Furtado, who was the sport’s most dominant racer (male or female). I went contrary and predicted to my editor at Mountain Bike that, instead, Susan would be the sole American to win a medal. When she won the bronze, I looked like a genius. Thanks, Susan.
